Tips, Reminders & Miscellaneous

PRIOR TO EXCAVATION

  • Be sure all personal backyard items are removed from the pool area and access route.  Also, if you have backyard pets, we suggest you make arrangements for them.  We cannot give you exact times that crews will be there and we cannot be responsible for your pets.  Your cooperation will be appreciated.
  • Make sure that any fencing or landscaping in the access route or in the area of excavation is removed.
  • Make sure that all downspouts that may direct water into the pool area are disconnected and re-routed.  We cannot be responsible for damaged downspout lines.  Also, if there are any underground drainage lines, it is your responsibility to make sure that they do not drain into the excavated pool.  This could cause damage to the excavation and cause you to incur additional costs.  If you have an in-ground sprinkler system, please be sure that it’s turned off, the lines are blown out, and the sprinkler heads in the access route and excavation area are capped off.  After the pool is installed, you may re-route your sprinkler lines.

ACCESS AREAS, DAMAGE, PERMITS

  • If there are any utilities in the access route or the pool area, you will need to have them re-routed prior to excavation.
  • Make sure to ask your construction superintendent how much of your yard will be damaged.  Most access and pool areas where dirt will be stacked will be damaged.  Remember, we take no responsibility for damage done to the access areas.
  • Make sure that your permit stays at all times in a visible location.  The inspectors will need to be able to see it each time they come out until the project has passed the final inspection.  Failure to have the permit accessible may result in a re-inspection fee, which the homeowner will be responsible to pay.

FENCING AND GATE REQUIREMENTS

  • After decks are poured, it is the Homeowner’s responsibility to be sure that all FENCING AND GATE REQUIREMENTS are met.  Specific requirements vary from city to city, so it is imperative that you contact your city’s building and planning department to verify what is required to pass inspection.  Please be aware that most cities in this area require alarms to be installed on all doors that lead directly into the pool area.  Failure to meet the city requirements could result in the delay of plastering your pool.  To ensure timely completion of your pool, please inform Blue Haven office 636-940-2169 when you’re fencing is complete.  Please feel free to contact the office with any questions.

PLASTER

  • It is very important that a water hose be left out for the plaster crew. When they finish, they will start filling the pool. DO NOT turn the water off until the water is up to the middle of the tile line. If the water is turned off before the pool is full, the plaster will stain. That type of staining may never come out! If you are concerned about the water overflowing, you may turn the water stream down but DO NOT TURN IT OFF.

CHANGE ORDERS

  • Usually changes will cost time and money.  In the event of a change, you will be asked to sign a change order form and you will be required to pay for the cost of the change at that time, plus a change order fee.
