FAQS
Depending on the backyard configuration, you will likely need a rough minimum of 500 square feet for an in-ground pool.
However, the final minimum number will vary with the shape of the property. That’s because gunite pools allow builders to develop shrewd designs to maximize use of available space.
The engineering and permitting process is individual to each city/municipality. The permit process typically takes 1-4 weeks. The average gunite project takes around 12 weeks in construction time, weather permitting. The average fiberglass project takes 4-6 weeks in construction time, weather permitting. Projects with more elaborate features will take longer.
- Underground rock
- Extended tree roots
- A high local water table (in which water from the earth seeps into an excavated hole)
- Buried utility lines that utility-reporting services did not identify
We have a full time Superintendent and Scheduling Coordinator on staff. They will schedule and do what we call a “Walkthrough” with the customer prior to construction. They will go over the entire project in detail which includes the contract, access routes, drawing, elevations etc…. Most of this information will have been previously explained by our designer, but this ensures better communication moving forward through your project. They are responsible for managing each phase of the project and answering any questions along the way.
Your yard and your access areas will have some construction damage. Your driveway may suffer some damage due to the weight of the equipment used to cross it.
Blue Haven has no responsibility for the integrity of previously placed concrete and/or asphalt, therefore, we cannot warrant any damage done to driveways.
Yes, but all change orders will have a processing fee and most changes cause delays and cost more money.
The day of excavation marks the first day of your job. In most instances, the day of excavation will be within 60-90 days after the contract has been signed and all down payments have been received in our office, depending on approved permitting.
No, you can expect a time delay between days crews are actually working on your project.
It is best to wait until the equipment is started, the deck is poured, and the water has been chemically treated before swimming.
We provide both labor and mechanical warranties. Additionally, we offer a lifetime warranty on the gunite pool shell.
Yes, our service division, Blue Haven Pool Service, will handle anything from weekly maintenance to repairs over the lifetime of your pool. This includes opening, closing and winter maintenance.

Tips, Reminders & Miscellaneous
PRIOR TO EXCAVATION
- Be sure all personal backyard items are removed from the pool area and access route. Also, if you have backyard pets, we suggest you make arrangements for them. We cannot give you exact times that crews will be there and we cannot be responsible for your pets. Your cooperation will be appreciated.
- Make sure that any fencing or landscaping in the access route or in the area of excavation is removed.
- Make sure that all downspouts that may direct water into the pool area are disconnected and re-routed. We cannot be responsible for damaged downspout lines. Also, if there are any underground drainage lines, it is your responsibility to make sure that they do not drain into the excavated pool. This could cause damage to the excavation and cause you to incur additional costs. If you have an in-ground sprinkler system, please be sure that it’s turned off, the lines are blown out, and the sprinkler heads in the access route and excavation area are capped off. After the pool is installed, you may re-route your sprinkler lines.
ACCESS AREAS, DAMAGE, PERMITS
- If there are any utilities in the access route or the pool area, you will need to have them re-routed prior to excavation.
- Make sure to ask your construction superintendent how much of your yard will be damaged. Most access and pool areas where dirt will be stacked will be damaged. Remember, we take no responsibility for damage done to the access areas.
- Make sure that your permit stays at all times in a visible location. The inspectors will need to be able to see it each time they come out until the project has passed the final inspection. Failure to have the permit accessible may result in a re-inspection fee, which the homeowner will be responsible to pay.
FENCING AND GATE REQUIREMENTS
- After decks are poured, it is the Homeowner’s responsibility to be sure that all FENCING AND GATE REQUIREMENTS are met. Specific requirements vary from city to city, so it is imperative that you contact your city’s building and planning department to verify what is required to pass inspection. Please be aware that most cities in this area require alarms to be installed on all doors that lead directly into the pool area. Failure to meet the city requirements could result in the delay of plastering your pool. To ensure timely completion of your pool, please inform Blue Haven office 636-940-2169 when you’re fencing is complete. Please feel free to contact the office with any questions.
PLASTER
- It is very important that a water hose be left out for the plaster crew. When they finish, they will start filling the pool. DO NOT turn the water off until the water is up to the middle of the tile line. If the water is turned off before the pool is full, the plaster will stain. That type of staining may never come out! If you are concerned about the water overflowing, you may turn the water stream down but DO NOT TURN IT OFF.
CHANGE ORDERS
- Usually changes will cost time and money. In the event of a change, you will be asked to sign a change order form and you will be required to pay for the cost of the change at that time, plus a change order fee.
